IN MY VOICE

by Meshell Baylor

It's difficult I know sometimes you look at the sky for an answer.

I'd rather be alone than in a room filled with people.
Drawing superheros or gazing at the smallest object in the house.

I love that you look at every picture I draw.
Listen to me speak about the same topic every single day.
I know sometimes you look at the sky for the answers.
And I love when you bring your head back down your eyes land on me.

I'd rather be alone than in a room filled with people, I really hate engaging in conversations.
I love that you look at everything I do and smile with happiness.
You love me yet know me so well that if I could I would say I love you.

I love you for all the dreams and hopes you carry for me.
I love you for every smile, dance, and cheerful look you send my way.
I love that you know me yet never complain.
Even though I can't say what I really want.

In my voice I would tell you that I see you, Mom. I see you Dad.
I would say in my voice I love you for loving me!
