Hot Topic: The Word "Retarded"

Retard! For some of us, being called "retarded" is as painful and offensive as being called the N word. Some of us believe the word isn't offensive at all. Others will use this word to bully and tease, and there are those that believe calling someone "retarded" is funny.

Whether or not you personally use it, or have heard the word "retarded" used to describe your child, or to insult her. Believe it is humorous, or use this word to mask your feelings for an autistic child.

Do you ever call or refer to your autistic child as "retarded"? Do you think being called "retarded" prepares an autistic child to live in a "cruel world?"

Recently our loved one, MJ was stunned to hear a celebrity radio show host more than once laughingly call his own son, he says has Asperger's "retarded."
